03 MINIMAL TO ITS MAX
Röda bergen always minimise the number of contents to make clean formulas that performs to max. Contradicty to what you may think, fewer ingredients actually makes more impact.
Skin care formulas with fewer ingredients are more functional for several reasons. Fewer ingredients reduce irritation risk, especially for sensitive skin. They also target specific concerns more effectively, ensuring each ingredient serves a clear purpose. A streamlined formula improves absorption, as too many ingredients can hinder the effectiveness of actives. Additionally, simpler formulas are more stable, with fewer chances of ingredient interactions that may reduce the product’s shelf life or efficacy.
04 FRESHLY MADE
Röda bergen products is always 100% freshly made. Standard industry skin care products may have a shelf life up to 3 years after opening the container.
Röda bergen products starts its expiry date the same they are produced and will be effective and fresh when they reach you. They are always clearly marked, and we use an absolute minimum amount of preservatives only when necessary. Many products is 100% free from preservative.

Skincare products can be called ‘natural’ despite having up to 30% synthetic ingredients. These are mostly put into products to make them more appealing — to give them a nice fragrance, a richer lather or a longer shelf life. But our bodies just don’t know how to process many of these ingredients. All Röda bergen’s products are from 100% natural origin.Röda bergen sets its own standard for what clean and natural means with zero tolerance for known harmful ingredients. Ultimately, this is all about the health of our skin and our bodies so each product is clean, natural and safe. Without compromise.
Röda bergen Blacklist
01 ANIMAL-DERIVED INGREDIENTS
Raw materials from animals are commonly used in skincare and cosmetics, including animal collagen, sheep lanolin, beeswax etc. In addition, and according to European regulations, Röda bergen's products are not tested on animals.
02 ARTIFICIAL COLOURS & FRAGRANCES
These make a product look and smell appealing. But they have no benefit to the skin and can be photosensitive (react with sunlight) and cause irritation.
03 BHA & BHT (BUTYLATED HYDROXYANISOLE & BUTYLATED HYDROXYTOLUENE)
Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA) and Butyl Hydroxytoluene (BHT) are commonly used to preserve the shelf life of a product. BHA is a possible carcinogen according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer. While BHT has been shown to be toxic. These two ingredients can also interfere with hormone function and break down essential vitamins in the body.
04 CHLORPHENESIN
A preservative based on chlorine, which has a highly polluting manufacturing process.
05 COAL TAR
Coal tar is a known carcinogen, skin allergen and respiratory toxicant. As well as being obtained via coal processing.
06 DEA (Diethanolamine)
DEA (diethanolamine) is a chemical pH adjuster. Making a product close to the natural pH of the skin is critically important, and the pH is always tested when each batch is made. But instead of DEA, Röda bergen uses only natural pH adjusters.
07 DMDM HYDANTOIN
This preservative slowly releases carcinogenic formaldehyde over time (see Formaldehyde). People can also develop a contact allergy to formaldehyde or the ingredient itself.
08 EDTA
This binding agent improves stability and decreases the reactivity of any metal ions in a product. While it is a relatively low risk ingredient, EDTA cause skin, eye and lung irritations, and may also be toxic to organs.
09 ETHANOLAMINES
With these components, there is the risk of forming a potentially carcinogenic molecule when nitrite is present. This can be controlled, yet these ingredients are still environmentally toxic.
10 FORMALDEHYDE LIBERATORS
These preservatives gradually release formalin, which is a skin irritant and suspected carcinogen.
11 HYDROQUINONE
Hydroquinone is a common ingredient in over-the-counter medicine, fragrances and as skin-lightening chemical. However, it’s recognised as an organ toxicity hazard and linked to cancer and skin irritations.
12 METHYLISOTHIAZOLINONE
Used to replace parabens, this preservative is highly irritating and can cause contact eczema. Usage is strictly regulated in Europe.
13 NANOMATERIALS
These very small particles (1-100 nm) can penetrate the skin and cause unknown effects in the body.
14 PARABENS (Ethyl, methyl, propyl, butyl)
Parabens are preservatives that can upset the body’s hormonal balance. Some parabens have already been banned in beauty products but Röda bergen goes further and avoids the whole family as a precaution.
15 PEGs (Polyethylene Glycol)
PEGs are commonly used as a thickener, emulsifier, surfactant or humectant. However, PEGs are suspected carcinogens and have difficulty biodegrading. In addition, their manufacture creates dioxane, an extremely polluting waste product.
16 PHENOXYETHANOL
Easily absorbed through the skin, this preservative is a potential irritant as well as having suspected neurotoxic effects.
17 PHTHALATES
Used as fixing and plasticizing agents to help fragrances and varnishes last longer, as well as in plastic packaging, phthalates are believed to be dangerous endocrine disruptors.
18 PROPYLENE GLYCOL
Derived from petrochemicals, its high-scale production is a danger to the environment.
19 RETINOL
A synthetic form of Vitamin A, retinol is commonly found in many anti-aging skincare products. However, retinol is known to cause skin irritation, photosensitivity, and is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breast-feeding. And, according to an FDA study, retinoid ingredients may even speed the development of skin tumours and lesions on sun-exposed skin.
20 SILICONES
Silicones are no danger to humans. But they have difficulty biodegrading so they will pollute the environment when they flow into wastewater.
21 SLS/SLES (Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate)
Used widely as detergents and cleansing agents, these can cause irritation and allergic reactions as well as serious health risks.
22 TEA (Triethanolamine)
TEA (Triethanolamine) is a chemical pH adjuster. Making a product close to the natural pH of the skin is critically important, and the pH is always tested when each batch is made. But instead of TEA, Röda bergen uses only natural pH adjusters.
23 TRICLOSAN/TRICLOCARBAN
These preservatives harm the environment, particularly aquatic organisms.

Minimal → More understandable → More controlIt’s very useful to know exactly what you are putting onto and into your body. And it’s much easier to know that when a brand uses few ingredients as well as presenting all of them in an understandable way. Röda bergen removes the complexity, making it easier for you to stay in control of your own skin.
Also, and just as important, the fewer ingredients, the less chance of an allergic reaction that can leave skin dry and irritated. It’s easier to navigate through the ingredients your skin benefits from — and what it doesn’t benefit from — when reducing the number of ingredients.
